Home burglar
alarms
Some ideas to help you decide if you really need a house burglar alarm.
Before buying any hoise burglar alarm it might be prudent to have a
look
around your own property and decide for yourself how secure or unsecure
it is. Checking especially for any weak spots that could be exploited
by
potential intruders. You could start with the garden. It's not just
your house which needs to be protected, the garden and it's
contents need to be protected as well.
The kind of thing to look for is, for example, a garden perimiter
fence which
is wobbly and crumbling and which needs only a determined kick with a
heavy boot to bring it down. Rather than replace such fencing you could
expolit the use of natural
thorny or prickly hedges to safeguard garden boundaries.
Don't forget to have a look at the garden shed as well to see if it is
in an adequate state of repair. Check to see if the locking mechanism
is adequate for your needs. There wouldn't be any point in spending a
lot of money on an intruder alarm system if you decide not to keep
anything
valuable locked away inside. Your moneywould be better spent elsewhere.
How secure is your house? Windows and doors need to be in a good
state
of repair, and all should be lockable. If you have wooden frames they
should be sound , and showing no sign of wood rot.
It's important to try and look at your property from the perspective of
a burglar. If you had to break in to your property how would you go
about it.? Look for the weakspots, if there are any.
I would especially look for secluded areas of your home, and
think about securing them with a PIR device. Wooden
doors need to have a good mortice lock on them.
The use of outside lighting is known to deter people who
would rather
not be seen, ie burglars. This type of lighting is easily installed and
is activated
either by motion or heat detectors. Gravel paths too, might not be the
most aesthetic choice but they do make a noise when walked on and that
from a security point of view is good enough to deter a burglar.
Try and decide for yourself if it worth spending any money at all on an
house burglar alarm . If you have a dog, for instance, you might think
having
an burglar alarm as well is unecessary. That's up to you.
You could also have a look at burglary rates in your
neighbourhood, by
checking the local newspaper. They might be higher in some parts of the
area than in
others. All these factors can help you decide whether it is worth your
while buying a house burglar alarm.
